about
I recorded this in response to "There Must be Other Names for the River", a vocal work based on historical streamflow data from the Rio Grande. If you haven't seen and heard that, you should—https://othernamesfortheriver.com/
As part of that project, the artists asked viewers/listeners to upload their own audio impressions of the Rio Grande.
I moved to Albuquerque in the summer of 2020 during the pandemic and my dog Annie and I got in the habit of walking through the bosque along the river almost every day. While you're never unaware that you're in the city, it is peaceful and a relatively quiet place to walk.
The repeating pattern of this piece is something that I got in my head while we were walking down there. I recorded some field audio and then improvised the other guitar part over that. The improvised guitar plays off the regular rhythm of the first guitar like smaller currents in a big river will rush and slow down against the main current.

Like winter branches lined with snow and ice, Sam Ray (Ricky Eat Acid, Teen Suicide)'s latest is delicate, spare, melancholy, and beautiful. Bandcamp New & Notable Jan 3, 2018
Prana Crafter’s “Bodhi Cheetah’s Choice” is an album of mystic, drifting guitar work alternately haunting and searing. Bandcamp New & Notable Jan 8, 2018
